Why The BMW Vision Neue Klasse Will Be The New Benchmark for EVs
Announced in early September, BMW Vision Neue Klasse ushers in a new era for BMW, placing people at the core of the next generation vehicle’s design philosophy. Furthermore the all-electric EV platform represents a new beginning for the BMW brand, as well as a fresh thinking and approach as the company is in the midst of a process transformation for its transition of its entire vehicle line to electrification.
Unlike traditional BMW models, Neue Klasse will do away with chrome exterior treatments in favor of LED lighting and 3D printing. The goal for the company is make its vehicles more sustainable while still featuring a distinctive look, as well as allow for personalization to suit driver preferences.
Focused on “intelligent reduction to the essentials,” Neue Klasse aims to limit the use of traditional controls in favor of a more interactive human-car interface. Features like BMW Panoramic Vision and multifunction steering wheel controls, enhanced by AI and voice commands, courtesy of BMW Personal Assistant, will offer a deeply immersive driving experience.
BMW says that the next generation of iDrive will be a modern interpretation of driver orientation and the driver experience. BMW Panoramic Vision will project information to the driver at the ideal height into his or her line of sight on the windscreen to give key information about the vehicle. Both the driver and the passenger will be able to interact with information presented on the BMW panoramic vision
Sustainability is another cornerstone of the BMW Vision Neue Klasse. The model will forgo the use of chrome and leather to minimize its carbon footprint during production.
Utilizing BMW’s e-Drive technology, the vehicle promises 30% greater range and faster charging, owing to high-efficiency motors and innovative round battery cells. According to BMW, Neue Klasse will be 25% more efficient than the company’s current EVs.
Set to go into production in 2025, Neue Klasse will be the first in a series of six new models based on the platform. It will be produced in Hungary, China, and Munich, Germany. The new electric vehicle platform will be extended to the 5 Series, 7 Series, and BMW SUVs.
Design-wise, Neue Klasse integrates elements from the iconic 1960 BMW 1500, providing a unique fusion of past and future, notably in its “shark nose” front treatment. From our impressions, BMW achieved its goal of departing from the present with “optimism toward the future” with Neue Klasse’s aggressive and confident front fascia.

The Neue Klasse all-electric platform allows for all four wheels to be pushed toward the corner of the vehicles, allowing for a longer wheelbase, improved handling, and a larger interior. The interior is spacious, achieved partly by the removal of internal combustion engine components. Redesigned front seats create extra legroom for rear passengers.
The company’s approach to sustainability is reflected in Neue Klasse through the choice of materials used throughout the vehicle, even in areas that frequently interact with the road, ensuring easy recyclability and reduced environmental impact. Both exterior and interior components will be constructed from eco-friendly materials, aligning with BMW’s commitment to sustainability.
As sustainability becomes a greater part of consumers’ consideration sets, the circular elements like those featured in Neue Klasse will become much more important in deciding on a vehicle rather than sort of the standard amenities like leather and traditional, high quality surface materials
The Neue Klasse is not just a new model for BMW, it’s a vision of the future of automotive design and technology. From its focus on people to its commitment to sustainability and digitalization, this vehicle marks a major shift for the brand as it makes its shift toward electrification.
Furthermore, Neue Klasse represents an important pillar for BMW, as the company positions itself in a rapidly changing mobility landscape. BMW, with Neue Klasse, is positioning itself lead and shape the future of mobility.
