Walmart to Offer Every Day Low Price and Convenient EV Charging Network Across America
Walmart and Sam’s Club plan to alleviate range anxiety and safety concerns for drivers by creating their own charging network.
Walmart and Sam’s Club have announced their plans to make electric vehicle (EV) ownership more accessible, reliable, convenient, and affordable for their customers and members across the United States. The retail giants intend to build their own EV fast-charging network at thousands of Walmart and Sam’s Club locations coast-to-coast by 2030. This new network will be in addition to the 1,300 EV fast-charging stations they already have available at over 280 locations across the US.
With a store or club located within 10 miles of approximately 90% of Americans, Walmart and Sam’s Club are uniquely positioned to deliver a convenient charging option that will help make EV ownership possible for people living in rural, suburban, or urban areas. The companies have a shared goal meeting the needs of their customer in surrounding communities, as well as EV owners who are making road trips.
The chargers will be located at Walmart’s Supercenters, Neighborhood Markets, and Sam’s Clubs, offering customers and members the convenience of shopping and dining while they charge their EVs.
To complement Walmart’s mission of offering “Every Day Low Price,” the company aims to provide low-cost charging, helping ease transportation costs, which the company says is the second highest household cost for much of the country.
Walmart and Sam’s Club’s plan to building their own charging network will also help expand domestic EV charging capacity across states as more drivers transition to EVs. This plan marks the latest investment in the companies’ efforts to transform their business and product supply chains to be more sustainable while reducing emissions and increasing efficiencies for customers.
Given the over 3,500 Walmart Supercenter and 600 Sam’s Club locations across the US, the proposed charging network will alleviate a major concern for EV owners and prospective buyers who have been hesitant to purchase an EV due to safety and range anxiety concerns as it relates to finding a functioning charger in a safe area when needed.
